Dear Joerg
There is an issue here which might bear deeper investigation. My
recollection is that when China signed the Strasbourg Agreement, they
took advantage of their right to claim exemption under Article 4(4) of
the Agreement, which permits them not to include IPC marks on certain
classes of documents, including utility models. I have never actually
checked to see whether they took advantage of that exemption. If they
did, there may be a range of years for which the source data does not
include an IPC at all.
