[PIUG List] Announcement from British Library - access to paperpatent specifications

Readers, even those not based close enough to the British Library to
make use of the service which will be temporarily suspended, may wish to
know that alternative services exist. PDF and printed copies of
worldwide patents can be requested and delivered online through the
Thomson Reuters Global Document Services ( email:
scientific.ipglobaldocuments_at_thomsonreuters.com ) and related Thomson
Reuters subscription products. This service provides access to all and
any publically available patent specifications.

From January 2009 The British Library will undertake a large scale
programme of collection moves in order to rationalise the storage of our
material over two sites (Boston Spa, Yorkshire and St Pancras, London.)

 

During the first phase of collection moves the Library will need to
suspend access to all paper patent specifications which are not
currently held at the St Pancras site for a minimum of nine months.

 

This suspension will affect paper patent application and grant documents
from a number of authorities.

 

We apologise for any inconvenience this will cause. The collection moves
are highly complex and will involve multiple activities during the
patents phase of the moves resulting in their unavailability. This
policy will ensure that the risk of loss or damage to our valuable and
rare material will be reduced to as low as is practically possible.
Note that all historical British material will remain available.

 

Access to all paper patent specifications will be re-instated at the end
of the 9 months suspension period.
