2009 PIUG Call for Papers
We are pleased to announce the call for papers for the 2009 Annual PIUG
Conference ? Searching Beyond Your Borders. Conference will be held at
the Hyatt Regency, San Antonio, Texas from May 2 ? 7, 2009.
We are particularly interested in papers from information users within
corporations, patent offices, law firms, universities and contractors who=
are able to discuss one of the following topics:
Patent Searching Beyond Your Borders. For this we want to hear from
patent information professionals who have worked in areas considered
beyond borders for patent information. Examples of this type of searches
include:
Searching beyond geographical borders such as patent searching in specific=
geographical areas;
Searching beyond language borders especially languages with non-English
scripts such as Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc.
Searching beyond the area of expertise such as structure searching for
non-chemists; sequence searching for chemists; searching in mechanical,
electrical, computers or other arts; etc.
Searching to meet specific needs such as delivery of knowledge and not
just data; for requirements of USPTO, EPO or other patent offices; for
business or commercial needs, etc.
Use of diverse information sources for patent information such as web
pages; wikis, blogs, etc.
Recent changes to patent laws, rules and procedures.
Updates from patent offices including those from emerging countries or
regional authorities particularly focusing on Asian countries and
authorities.
New tools for patent visualization and analysis
Standards for novelty searching ? from perspective of (litigating &
prosecuting) patent attorneys, searchers, patent offices
Comparison of Boolean vs latent semantics analysis
Searching tips from expert searchers
Case studies such as comparison of fee vs free tools for patent
information
If these or related themes fall into your area of expertise then we would=
like to hear from you!
Please send your ? presentation title, abstract, proposed speaker name,
company name, brief biography and full contact information to kartar.arora=
@ basf.com (remove spaces) on or before January 15, 2009, for full
consideration.
If you think you may be interested in speaking but require management
approval beforehand, please let us know so that we can begin to consider
your general proposal for a paper in the meantime (submission of just a
few descriptive sentences will be sufficient).
The organizers reserve the right to accept abstracts at their discretion
in order to assemble the best possible program. Invited speakers may take=
precedence over other speakers. Please be advised that your abstract
submission may be published on the Internet or elsewhere, shortly after
receipt or at any time thereafter. Therefore, do not include confidential=
or business-sensitive information in your abstract.
If you would like to make a recommendation for a speaker on a particular
topic or suggest another topic of interest, we would appreciate hearing
from you. Please do not hesitate to contact the 2009 PIUG Annual
Conference organizers with your views.
Further news about the program and updates regarding the conference will
be posted on the PIUG Discussion List and on the PIUG web site at
www.piug.org.
Thank you for your consideration. We look forward to seeing you at the
PIUG 2009 Annual Meeting in San Antonio.
