Hi, all. I hope this isn't too basic a question. We are building a
patent library to support the law school's IP concentration. Through our
Westlaw contract, we currently have access to the data contained in
Derwent Global Patents Index. It has a different user interface than
native DGPI, though, since it is overlaid with the Westlaw look and
feel.
Does anyone have experience with both of these interfaces? Do we need to
subscribe to Derwent native if we want to train our students to be good
patent searchers?
Given our limited budget, we will only be able to subscribe to one
patent database. (We also have access to PubWEST because we are a Patent
and Trademark Depository Library.) Is Derwent the best choice? What else
would you recommend?
Thanks in advance for your input. I'm new to the patent field, and I
realize that these questions may seem basic to you veterans!
