Two good answers were received: the first from Owen C. Feeley, the second f=
rom Linda Shackle. Congratulations to both.
I quote Linda:
Hi Paul ---- is the patent GB190912193: An Improved Resilient Wheel for Ro=
ad Vehicles by FOKKER HERMAN (Date: 1910-05-12)?
I went on Google Books and found the quote "our perfidious lawyer" was fro=
m "Flying Dutchman: The Life of Anthony Fokker" and then went on Espacenet=
and found the patents by inventors with the last name of "Fokker". The ti=
tle of this one looked like it was appropriate and the abstract said "No P=
atent granted (Sealing fee not paid)."
Further evidence can be produced comparing the patent figures: http://v3.es=
pacenet.com/origdoc?DB=EPODOC&IDX=GB190912193&F=0&QPN=GB190912193
with the first picture of this Web page depicting the inventor next to his =
invention: http://www.mavodesaad.nl/gs/luchtvaart/fokker/fokker.htm
Interestingly, this "reinventing the wheel" episode is also mentioned in hi=
s wiki entry: He devised a leak-proof tire but this was not an original inv=
ention and was already patented.
Kind regards,
Paul Schwander
