Hello Everyone,
I was meaning to send out a note about this workshop but Alek beat me
to it.
Alek has sent several notes about the IRF and the importance of having
PIUG members participate in the activities of organizations like this
one in order to improve patent searching methods for the entire
community.
To see a great presentation on the importance of efforts like the IRF
see the URL below which links to Stephen Adams' presentation from the
inaugural IRF event in Vienna last year:
http://www.ir-facility.org/symposium/irf-symposium-2007/videos-and-presentations/wrap-up
In the past the group has held events in Europe which may have been
too far to travel for US PIUG members. With this workshop being in
Northern California the hope is that more PIUG members from the US
will be able to attend.
I also wanted to share with you the title of my talk since it wasn't
on the original posting.
Patent Information Retrieval - What's at Stake Here
I hope several of you will be able to attend since one of the critical
components of this exercise is helping to teach the mostly academic
information retrieval community the unique challenges and
idiosyncrasies of patent information. PIUG members have a unique
perspective and ability to share their experiences with this group.
For the sake of formality I also need to mention that the organizers
mistakenly used my former affiliation when they posted this notice. I
think most people on the list recognize that I am with 3LP Advisors
now. Apologies for any confusion this may have caused.
Best regards,
Tony
