[PIUG List] 2009/10 Anniversaries & World Patent Information

WORLD PATENT INFORMATION
 
In response to previous requests here, we have had a number of full
articles or short communications in World Patent Information on the
theme of historical anniversaries of patents, inventions or patent
legislation.
 
We hope to continue this series, for 2009 and 2010 - offers will now be
very welcome!
 
Although not an exhaustive list, we have tracked down the following 2009
anniversaries, that may give you some ideas to develop. We can provide
patent numbers for most topics.
 
1809
Carbon paper; fountain pen patent (although first practical pen was not
produced until late in the 19th century)
 
1859
Moving starcase patent (although first practical escalator not until end
of the 19th century)
Helicopter first patent (but first practical helicopter not until 1907)
 
1909.
Bakelite, the first totally synthetic plastic, is announced
Invention of precipitation hardening technique to create lightweight,
yet strong, aluminium alloys
Electric washing machine - Alva Fisher- US 966677
 
1959
Hovercraft marks new era in transport
Integrated circuit invented by Kilby and by Noyce
Float glass - Pilkington - US 2911759
String of US patents to Glenn Seaborg relate to uranium, plutonium etc.
