Message posted on behalf of the Scientific business of Thomson Reuters
from Dave Brown, Executive Vice President:
Thomson Reuters announced today it has signed an agreement with
ProQuest, a Cambridge Information Group company, for the sale of its
Dialog business (including DataStar). The transaction is expected to
close in the coming months pending the successful completion of
customary deal requirements.
According to the agreement, Dialog, a respected brand for 40 years and
leading online provider of business, engineering, finance, legal and
scientific content, will become part of ProQuest, which itself has more
than 125 billion digital pages of scholarly information and owns the
world's largest digital newspaper archive.
Strategic Decision
Dialog's data aggregation strategy no longer fits with Thomson Reuters'
strategy to build deeper, richer content and analytical services in
specific vertical markets. It does, however, complement ProQuest's
aggregation philosophy and family of offerings. Dialog and ProQuest also
serve the same markets and the companies' values are closely aligned.
The acquisition would allow ProQuest to extend its presence in the
corporate library and professional research markets.
Thomson Reuters Content
Thomson Reuters will partner with ProQuest and continue to offer its
content through Dialog and DataStar as valued distribution channels.
This content includes Derwent World Patents Index (DWPI), BIOSIS,
Investext, SciSearch and TrademarkScan, among others.
Communication
A press release

Thomson Reuters area manager. Members of the media should contact
