Purpose and Summary of Position:
Provide in-depth technical, patent or business information searches to Chemicals technical, business and IP staff
Conduct comprehensive searches of technical and patent information using online database and other information resources; provide insightful evaluation and analysis of results; and deliver timely, value-added patent search reports

Analyze and summarize search results using scientific knowledge and specialized tools
Timely delivery of current awareness information, particularly patent watches in support of company product line and active research programs

Create, maintain and update library-related resources, document databases and websites
Provide reference assistance to personnel, including document delivery, interlibrary loan, translation delivery and general library maintenance

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

o BS in Chemistry (MS/PhD in Library / Information Science is Preferred)
o Minimum of 3 yrs. experience conducting technical, patent or business information searches in the petrochemical industry
o Demonstrated proficiency in conducting comprehensive and focused patent searches.
o Strong evaluation, formatting and organization skills.
o Experience using online databases, Internet resources, specialized information retrieval tools, chemical fragmentation codes and patent classification systems.
o Excellent computer and writing skills
o Experienced user of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook
o Effective oral and written commuication skills
o Ability to manage multiple priorities

Desired Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

o Good understanding of US, EPO and PCT patenting processes, filing systems and documentation
o Experience with specific online databases: CAS Registry, CAPlus, Marpat, Derwent WPI, Beilstein, Micropatent, USPTO, EPO, SIPO, and software such as STN Express
o Direct experience with creating and maintaining websites/portals and information databases
o MS/PhD in Library / Information Science Desirable
