Dear Martin,

 

The term "search report," as you have described it, may have several
meanings. I have attached a PDF sample search report, in this case a
formal component of the European patent document.

 

A report, e.g., on patentability, prepared by a search firm might be far
more extensive and include copies of the documents considered
potentially relevant.

 

Elements of a search report would also be present in the communication
between the examining office and the applicant or applicant's
representative. The communications and other papers relating to a
particular patent application are collectively known as the file wrapper
or file history and can often be obtained from the examining office.

I am looking for a sample search report conducted by an examiner,
professional searcher or patent applicant, specifically in the area of
computer software, even more specifically in the area of artificial
intelligence. This is to be used as an

educational tool to show a college computer science class what would be
involved in conducting an exhaustive, professional-level patent search.
Does anyone know where I might find such a thing?
