Indian Patent added in DWPI

All Indian patent documents, both pre-grant applications and granted patents, issued since the new Indian patent laws came into force on December 4 2004, will become available over the coming weeks, in Derwent World Patents Index® (DWPI®).

And you will also be able to preview Indian data (aswell as patents from the other 40 authorities we cover) before it appears in DWPI, in the new DWPI First ViewSM file (DWPIFV) due to be launched on Questel•Orbit in May.

Ongoing, you will be able to access documents within two weeks from publication, in DWPI First View, and within 4-6 weeks in DWPI.

“Following the recent legislative changes, the number of patent filings is forecast to jump from current annual levels of about 10,000 per year to over 25,000 annually, with a corresponding increase in patent litigation,” --Brian Tyler, Executive Vice President of Corporate Markets, Thomson Scientific.

“Since India has now become a major player in the IP arena, we recognized the importance of giving our users comprehensive and quick access to Indian patents.”

The addition of Indian patent data means you can now access value-added patent information from 41 patent issuing authorities — giving you more comprehensive coverage of worldwide patents than ever before. And with data from major authorities, available within 30 days of publication in DWPI, you can have it faster too!

MMS on Unix

In collaboration with the French National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), we released the Markush Darc Software on a Unix Platform.

This new software version, dedicated to the Merged Markush Service (MMS), was developed to offer faster and more flexible searches and to open new intranet and in house capabilities. After thorough internal and users beta testing, this new software is now available on Questel•Orbit to provide a new Merged Markush Service.

Merged Markush Service, the structure file jointly produced by INPI and Thomson Scientific, provides the largest Markush structure coverage available online with 1,600,000 structures records representing 450,000,000 specific real and prophetic structures.

This product is derived from many years in identifying and indexing the chemical and pharmaceutical innovations disclosed in the patent literature. All chemical are covered form 1983 to present, and, for Pharmaceutical patents, the coverage goes back to 1978.

Our Training Sessions

  • FamPat: Free Half-Day, Hands-on Training Sessions For Professional Searchers

Come and see how FamPat makes more sense of the search process: Search and display invention based records.
While the focus of the training will be on FamPat, we will also look at how this database relates to other databases such as: PlusPat, DWPI/WPAT/WPIL, Inpadoc, and the Full-Text files.

Launched on February 1st of this year, FamPat, the family design of PlusPat, represents a significant breakthrough in patent family databases, offering greater searching options as well as the added display convenience of family records, making FamPat easier to use than PlusPat.
FamPat is searched exactly the same as PlusPat, filled with more than 50 million patent documents from over 75 worldwide patenting authorities.

  • Merged Markush Service (MMS) Web Tutorial
The Merged Markush Service is the chemical structure system produced by the French Patent & Trademark Office (INPI) and Thomson Scientific, and is available exclusively on Questel•Orbit.  MMS provides the largest Markush structure coverage available online.

The aim of this forum is to make current and new users of MMS more comfortable with text query input and the Imagination software. The forum will last approximately 75 minutes, with time allotted for questions at the end.  Joe Terlizzi, Questel•Orbit will be the presenter.
