The term patent is often referred to as a legal instrument for the protection and the economic exploitation of inventions.
But it is little known that patents represent a valuable source of technical, scientific, commercial and strategic importance.
Patent searches allow to go into considerable depth in many areas
- studying state of the art technology and activities in various competitive areas;
- avoiding duplication of research and development and violate rights others.
Furthermore, in offering protection in exchange for the disclosure, the patent system promotes innovation.
This seminar you will teach you: the use of information in patent documents, databases, search criteria, types of patent searches. Practical examples will be given for each topic.

Questel participated once again this year at the II SDV conference in Nice last 15 and 16 of April.
The IISDV Conference 2013 focused on Search Data Mining and Visualization. As the volume of worldwide patent publications keeps growing, the main challenge for patent analytic solutions used to lie in their ability to manage such high volumes. A new challenge has arisen, due to the wide variety of data sources. Getting the right picture takes a new approach and requires further know-how: customizing and allowing the manipulation of data with as much freedom and power as analysts need.
Laurent Hill and Renaud Garat address the question: How does customizing statistics both by vetting the data-set and letting users define their own analysis axis facilitate the analysts' tasks and help them extract and highlight what is most important. For the full presentation please click here
Felix Coxwell presented Questel’s Orbit IP Business Intelligence. For the full commented presentation please refer to this link and this video simultaneously.
Want to kill global patent rights - in 30 seconds ?
Research Disclosure, the PCT listed defensive publication service has launched a new submission form. You can now upload a disclosure for publication in a matter of seconds. You can view the new submission form here.
Defensive publication is the purposeful publication of an innovation creating prior art to block future patents on the same idea. The IP strategy isn’t new; many top patentees have been using defensive publications alongside their patents to protect their IP for decades and increasingly smaller firms are starting to adopt the strategy.
