For anyone interested-

I recently conducted a structure search in the STN Registry file
for a client who wanted to see every reference available
disclosing his compounds. There were over 1,000 compounds and I
needed a quick and easy way to find out where these compounds
could be found. I figured out that the smartselect feature could
be used to list out all the STN files which contain the registry
numbers of the compounds. A summary of the strategy is shown
below.

Registry File:

L6 (1,235 compounds derived from structure search combined
with various registry dictionary terms
=> set smartselect on
=> sel l6 lc 1-
SmartSELECT INITIATED
SELECT IS APPROXIMATELY 9% COMPLETE
SELECT IS APPROXIMATELY 16% COMPLETE
.
.
.
(this took a while)

L7 SEL L6 1- LC : 21 TERMS

=> d 1-21

L7 SEL L6 1- LC : 21 TERMS
TERM # # OCC # DOC % DOC LC
------ ------- ------ ------ ---------------
1 1116 1116 94.18 CA
2 1116 1116 94.18 CAPLUS
3 459 459 38.73 BEILSTEIN
4 212 212 17.89 CASREACT
5 165 165 13.92 USPATFULL
6 110 110 9.28 CJACS
7 87 87 7.34 TOXLIT
8 54 54 4.56 CAOLD

19 1 1 0.08 HODOC
20 1 1 0.08 HSDB
21 1 1 0.08 TOXLINE
********* END OF L7 *********

I then looked at the list of files which support duplicate
remove, (I typed help dufile), searched my compounds in one
big group of files, removed duplicates, then searched the
compounds again in the remaining files which don't have duplicate
remove.

Maybe this can help someone else when doing a search of registry
numbers.
